My career began in the corporate sector, where I spent 22 years gaining hands-on experience in administrative and financial roles, including creditors management at Sasol. In 2017, I transitioned fully into the legal field and found my professional niche in deceased estate administration. The First Thing To Do When Someone Passes Away Many families feel overwhelmed after the loss of a loved one and are unsure what the first legal step is. The first step is to report the deceased estate to the Master of the High Court. This applies even if the person did not own property or did not have a will. Documents usually required include: • Death Certificate • Identity document of the deceased • Identity documents of family members • Marriage certificate (if applicable) • The original Will (if there is one) Once the estate is reported, the Master will appoint an Executor or Master's Representative who is responsible for administering the estate.
